Newz Desk, Durgapur: A major road accident occurred on the Asansol National Highway on Monday morning when a speeding car lost control and plunged off a bridge. Three passengers, including a young child, were travelling in the vehicle at the time of the accident. The incident triggered panic in the area.
The car was travelling from Banaras to Durgapur when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle on the highway, causing it to crash down from the bridge.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver may have dozed off at the wheel during the early morning hours, leading to the accident. Immediately after the incident, local residents and the highway patrolling team rushed to the spot and shifted the injured passengers to a nearby hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. Doctors said the condition of all the injured persons is currently stable.
The accident caused brief chaos at the site, following which police and officials from the National Highways Authority reached the spot and managed the situation. Efforts are underway to retrieve the damaged car from beneath the bridge using a crane.
Police have registered a case and initiated a detailed investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. The incident has once again highlighted the serious dangers of drowsy driving on national highways.
