Newz Desk, Durgapur: India Power Corporation Limited (IPCL) organised the 8th edition of its flagship CSR initiative, ‘Medha’, a scholarship programme for girls, at its Central Office in Sanctoria on Saturday. The programme, launched in 2019 in alignment with the Government of India’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign, has so far supported 40 meritorious girls from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
This year, five Class 10 students from government-sponsored schools in the Asansol-Raniganj region were selected as ‘Medhas’. They are Nikita Kumari of Asansol Arunoday High School, Nazrin Khatun of Benali Sri C.K.C.T. High School, Subhasree Ganguly of Sactoria Dishergarh High School, Anushka Chakraborty of Burnpur SPVN Girls High School and Sagarika Sheet of Gandhi Memorial Girls High School, Raniganj. Under the initiative, each scholar receives financial assistance for two years of higher secondary education, covering expenses such as tuition, books and other academic requirements. The scholarship amount is directly credited to the students’ accounts. The scholars were felicitated with scholarship certificates in the presence of their families, teachers, classmates and school principals. A special video highlighting their journeys and aspirations was also screened during the ceremony.
The event was attended by MS Mano Ranjani, Chief Guest and Resolution Professional, who encouraged the students to remain disciplined, work hard and continue learning throughout life. Sharing her own experience of pursuing law at the age of 50 after nearly three decades in procurement, she urged the girls to keep moving forward despite challenges.
Somesh Dasgupta, WTD/CEO, India Power, said the young scholars were not merely scholarship recipients but future ambassadors of women’s empowerment. He emphasised that with the right opportunities, encouragement and confidence, girls can dream bigger and create their own paths.
