News Desk, September 4 Asansol : Star Health and Allied Insurance Company Limited has strengthened access to free primary healthcare in West Bengal through its Arogya Seva Kendra initiative, with its centres in Asansol and Siliguri together recording more than 11,500 beneficiary visits.
The Asansol Arogya Seva Kendra recorded 6,805 beneficiary visits over 194 clinic days, averaging around 35 visits a day. The centre conducted 2,625 laboratory tests and provided 6,613 pharmacy services. It also screened 1,894 beneficiaries for diabetes and 4,489 for hypertension, while 91 pneumococcal vaccines were administered.
The Siliguri centre, meanwhile, recorded 4,697 beneficiary visits across 201 clinic days, with an average of around 23 visits per day. It conducted 1,960 laboratory tests, provided 4,566 pharmacy services and
screened 1,391 beneficiaries for diabetes and 3,517 for hypertension. A total of 36 pneumococcal vaccines were administered at the centre.
Together, the two centres have screened 8,006 beneficiaries for hypertension and 3,285 for diabetes. They have also provided 11,179 pharmacy services and administered 127 pneumococcal vaccinations, helping residents access essential medicines, preventive care and follow-up services closer to home.
Atin Roy, Business Head – Kolkata, Star Health and Allied Insurance, said the response to the two centres highlighted the importance of making primary healthcare easily accessible within local communities. He stressed that conditions such as hypertension and diabetes require timely screening, regular medical consultation and continued follow-up.
Each Arogya Seva Kendra is staffed by a doctor, nurse and support team. The centres provide free MBBS doctor consultations, screening for hypertension, diabetes and oral health conditions, as well as basic diagnostic services including haemoglobin, random blood sugar, urine sugar and albumin tests and rapid diagnostic testing for malaria.
Free medicines for common ailments and chronic conditions, health counselling and awareness sessions are also offered. Eligible beneficiaries can receive support for pneumococcal vaccination.
The Arogya Seva Kendra initiative is part of Star Health’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme and aims to reduce barriers to basic healthcare while encouraging timely medical intervention. By bringing primary healthcare services closer to residential communities, the programme seeks to improve awareness, early detection and continuity of care among underserved urban and semi-urban populations.
The two centres in West Bengal have been established in partnership with Piramal Swasthya, a part of the Piramal Foundation. Star Health currently operates 32 Arogya Seva Kendras across nine states.
