Newz Desk, Durgapur: Telangana is set to mark a major milestone in India’s technology education landscape, with the state’s first Artificial Intelligence University scheduled to become operational within the next two months. The announcement was made on Monday by Telangana’s Minister for Information Technology and Industries, Duddilla Sridhar Babu, who emphasised that the institution is being developed in technical collaboration with some of the world’s top universities.
Positioned as a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, the upcoming AI University aims to shape the next generation of innovators, researchers, and industry-ready professionals at a time when artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming global job markets.
A Global Collaboration to Build India’s AI Workforce
According to the minister, the university is being built with academic and research support from leading international institutions renowned for their contributions to AI, data science, machine learning and robotics. This global partnership model is expected to provide students access to world-class curricula, cutting-edge labs, joint research opportunities, and advanced certifications.
“This initiative will offer specialised training in emerging technologies for software engineers and students completing their studies. It will serve as a future-ready platform for large-scale reskilling and upskilling,” Sridhar Babu said.
Large-Scale Upskilling for the AI Era
The launch comes at a crucial time when industries across IT, manufacturing, healthcare, fintech, and public services are adopting AI-driven systems. Telangana, home to India’s second-largest IT hub, aims to position itself as the country’s leading AI innovation centre.
The AI University will focus on:
- Professional courses for working software engineers
- Industry-integrated degrees for undergraduate and postgraduate students
- Specialised certification programmes in AI, ML, Robotics, NLP, Cybersecurity, Data Engineering, Cloud, and GenAI
- Applied research collaborations with global academic partners and tech companies
- Startup incubation for AI-led innovations
Officials said that the institution will also work closely with the state’s IT industry to tailor programmes based on real-world skill needs, ensuring rapid employability.
Boost to Telangana’s Emerging Tech Vision
The university is part of the state’s broader plan to build a strong AI ecosystem that includes data centres, innovation parks, and digital skilling initiatives. With Hyderabad already hosting major global tech giants, the government believes that a specialised AI University will further strengthen the city’s position as a global technology destination.
“By equipping the next generation with top-tier AI skills, Telangana is preparing its youth for the most transformative tech revolution of our times,” the minister added.
Opening Soon, Admissions to Follow
The infrastructure for the university is in its final phase, and the state government is expected to announce details about admissions, faculty partnerships, and flagship programmes in the coming weeks. The first batch of students is likely to be admitted shortly after the formal inauguration.
With the countdown now underway, Telangana’s AI University is poised to become a landmark institution—not just for the state, but for India’s rapidly evolving technology sector.
