Solar for ₹8,747: TPWODL Brings Rooftop Power to Every Home

Newz Desk, Durgapur: In a major push towards affordable clean energy, TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL) has rolled out an ultra-low-cost 1 kW Rooftop Solar Scheme under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, enabling households to install solar power systems at a fraction of traditional costs. The scheme is expected to significantly benefit middle-class and low-income families by reducing upfront investment and long-term electricity expenses.

Under the new initiative, consumers can install a 1 kW rooftop solar system for just ₹8,747, instead of the conventional market price of ₹65,000–₹75,000. With subsidies directly supported under the central government initiative, TPWODL aims to make solar energy adoption far more inclusive and cost-efficient.

Clean Energy Gets Cheaper: TPWODL’s 1 kW Solar Plan Lights Up Low-Income Homes

According to the utility, a 1 kW system can generate around 100 units of electricity annually, helping households save up to ₹5,000 per year on their power bills. Consumers can also export surplus energy to the grid, further enhancing savings.

TPWODL officials confirmed that the company will oversee the entire installation process, from technical assessment to commissioning. The scheme includes a 5-year warranty on machinery and a 25-year performance warranty on solar panels, ensuring long-term reliability and minimal maintenance burden for users.

Company representatives stated that the initiative is part of TPWODL’s broader focus on promoting renewable energy adoption in Western Odisha, especially in semi-urban and rural pockets where upfront costs have traditionally been a barrier.

“This scheme is designed to make clean energy affordable and reachable to all. By reducing installation costs drastically and offering long-term warranty support, we aim to empower families while contributing to India’s renewable energy goals,” a TPWODL spokesperson said.

Energy experts believe the programme will accelerate the penetration of solar power in Odisha, positioning it as a model for accessible green energy adoption in other regions.

Applications for the scheme are now open, and TPWODL has urged eligible households to apply early as demand is expected to be high.

The launch marks a significant step toward the vision of energy self-reliance and reduced power bills for millions, especially those from modest economic backgrounds.
