Newz Desk, Durgapur: The Uttarakhand High Court has issued an important directive permitting the service of summons through electronic modes such as email and WhatsApp in cheque bounce cases, aiming to expedite judicial proceedings.
According to a circular issued by Registrar General Yogesh Kumar Gupta, courts will no longer be required to follow the traditional method of serving summons in cases related to cheque dishonour. Instead, summons can now be delivered digitally under the provisions of the Uttarakhand Electronics Process Act, 2025.
The move is expected to significantly reduce delays caused by difficulties in physical service of summons and improve efficiency in handling cheque bounce cases, which often remain pending for long periods. By allowing service through widely used digital platforms, the court seeks to ensure quicker communication with accused persons and faster progress of cases.
Legal experts believe the decision marks a major step towards modernising the judicial process and strengthening the use of technology in courts. The directive is also in line with broader efforts to promote digital governance and ease of access to justice.
The order underscores the High Court’s commitment to leveraging technology to streamline legal procedures and address the growing backlog of cases, particularly those involving financial disputes such as cheque dishonour.
