Newz Desk, Durgapur: A special eight-day training programme on conducting Durga Puja according to traditional rituals and prescribed timings began at the historic Shobhabazar Rajbari in Kolkata on Monday.
Organised by the Prachyavidya Academy, the training aims to guide participants through the traditional procedures of Durga Puja amid this year’s unusually complex ritual calendar. Around 150 participants are expected to attend the 40th training camp, including 15 women.
The programme will cover a wide range of subjects, from basic Sanskrit and history to Chandi recitation and detailed puja rituals. Participants will also receive practical training in rituals such as Ghatasthapana, Nabapatrika bathing, yajna and bali. According to Academy president Jayanta Kushari, the primary objective is to teach participants how to conduct Durga Puja properly while following both scriptural guidelines and Bengali traditions, particularly during the compressed ritual timings this year.
Swami Jnanarokananda of Swami Vivekananda’s ancestral residence will formally inaugurate the programme at the Rajbari’s Thakurdalan. The concluding ceremony will be held on September 14, when certificates will be awarded by Sanskrit College Vice-Chancellor Ayan Bhattacharya.
