Newz Desk, Durgapur: Members of the Bajrang Dal raised objections on Sunday over the alleged display of images of Hindu deities in dirty and unhygienic locations in the Ashish Market area of Durgapur. On Sunday afternoon, Bajrang Dal members visited several shops near Ashish Market and two houses located in front of the vegetable market. They reportedly requested the concerned people to remove images of Hindu deities that had been placed on walls and at various locations.
According to the Bajrang Dal, images of Hindu deities are sometimes placed on walls to discourage people from urinating in particular areas. However, when such places subsequently become dirty and unhygienic, the images placed there also risk being subjected to disrespect, the organisation alleged. Bajrang Dal members said displaying images of Hindu deities in dirty surroundings was unacceptable. They claimed that people responsible for putting up the images were asked to remove them at the earliest. At some locations, Bajrang Dal members themselves removed the images from the walls, according to the organisation.
The Bajrang Dal further said that if similar instances are noticed in the future, the concerned people would be alerted and, if necessary, the images would be removed. The incident has drawn attention to the practice of using religious images to discourage public urination and the concerns surrounding their placement in areas that may subsequently become unhygienic.
