Arun Lal Graces DPS Durgapur’s 12th Annual Sports Day with Grandeur

Newz Desk, Durgapur 24th December: Delhi Public School (DPS), Durgapur celebrated its 12th Annual Sports Day with great enthusiasm and meticulous organisation at Shahid Bhagat Singh Krirangan, Durgapur, reaffirming the institution’s strong commitment to sports, discipline, and holistic education.

The programme was formally inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Mr. Arun Lal, former Indian cricketer and an inspiration for generations owing to his remarkable grit and perseverance. The event was graced by distinguished members of the Management, including Sagar Agarwal, Secretary, and Ms. Natasha Agarwal, Treasurer, Om Dayal Educational & Research Society.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Arun Lal highlighted the transformative power of sports in shaping resilience, leadership, and ethical values among young learners. Drawing from his own cricketing journey, he emphasised that lessons learnt on the field extend far beyond the boundary lines, preparing students to face life’s challenges with courage and determination.

Presiding over the occasion, Principal Mr. Umesh Ch. Jaiswal reiterated that structured physical education plays a crucial role in nurturing confident, disciplined, and socially responsible individuals. Mr. Sagar Agarwal, a keen sports enthusiast, described the playground as a “classroom without walls,” where students learn teamwork, perseverance, humility in victory, and grace in defeat.

The opening ceremony witnessed a commanding March Past by the four school houses, showcasing impeccable synchronisation and discipline. The contingents were led by Head Boy Rewant Kotriwala and Head Girl Sohana Roy Barman, earning loud applause from the audience. A motivational opening song—a harmonious fusion of Eastern and Western melodies—set an inspiring tone for the day.

The sports meet featured a series of athletic events and fitness demonstrations, reflecting the students’ rigorous training and sportsmanship. The cultural segment added vibrancy to the celebration, with the highlight being the Manipuri martial art dance form “Thang Ta – Sword of Symphony,” where tradition came alive through synchronised sword movements. Other engaging performances included the Charlie Chaplin Dance, Fitness Fiesta, Yoga, and Karate displays. The Bulbul Girls Scout Group presented a rhythmic tribute to the Armed Forces of India, drawing heartfelt appreciation from the audience.

Nearly 1,900 students participated in 124 events, creating a lively yet disciplined atmosphere. Parents enthusiastically cheered for the young athletes and applauded the performances, expressing appreciation for the school’s consistent efforts in promoting physical fitness and holistic development.

Following the competitions, the Chief Guest and dignitaries awarded medals to the winners. Special awards were presented for Best Male Athlete, Best Female Athlete, Best March Past, Best House Enclosure, and the coveted Overall Champions Trophy, recognising outstanding performance and teamwork.

The Sports Day concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Deputy Head Boy Shirsendu Das, followed by the rendition of the National Anthem. The event ended on a solemn note with students taking a collective oath to strive for greater excellence in sports, reinforcing values of discipline, dedication, and continuous improvement
