Newz Desk,Durgapur 20th December 25: In a major crackdown on cybercrime, the Delhi Police arrested three members of a notorious Jamtara-based cyber fraud gang from an area adjoining Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport in Andal, Durgapur. The accused were later taken to Delhi on transit remand, triggering widespread sensation in the locality.
According to Delhi Police sources, the gang had allegedly cheated a Delhi-based individual of a substantial amount through cyber fraud. Following a formal complaint lodged at a cyber police station in New Delhi, an investigation was initiated. During the probe, police tracked the mobile phone locations of the accused, which led them to the airport-adjacent area in Durgapur.
Acting on the technical surveillance inputs, the Delhi Police conducted a raid and arrested three persons identified as Ranjit Kumar Mondal, Ajay Kumar Mondal and Mehebub Ansari. All three are residents of the Jamtara district in Jharkhand, a region infamous for cybercrime syndicates.
The accused were produced before the Durgapur Sub-Divisional Court on Saturday, where the judge granted a three-day transit remand. Subsequently, the Delhi Police cyber crime team escorted the trio in a mini bus to Durgapur Railway Station to take them to the national capital for further interrogation and legal proceedings.
Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to ascertain the full extent of the fraud, recover the defrauded money and identify other members linked to the gang.
