Newz Desk, Durgapur: In a significant step towards expanding the reach and revenue potential of public broadcasting, Prasar Bharati has released a draft Content Syndication Policy, 2025 for public consultation. The proposed policy outlines a roadmap to monetise television, radio and digital content while continuing to uphold the broadcaster’s public service mandate.
Replying to a question in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan said the policy is designed to promote India’s cultural outreach and create new avenues for monetisation of Prasar Bharati’s vast content repository. He was responding to a query raised by Salem MP T.M. Selvaganapathi.

According to the Minister, a structured consultation process was undertaken with key stakeholders across the media and digital ecosystem. These included OTT platforms, linear television broadcasters, radio networks, telecom operators, IPTV service providers and content aggregators, ensuring that industry perspectives were incorporated into the draft framework.
The proposed policy focuses on monetising content produced by Doordarshan and Akashvani, including archival national and regional programmes, digital-first content available on Prasar Bharati’s OTT platform, and live coverage of government events, festivals and sporting activities.
It also emphasises strategic collaborations with domestic and international platforms to widen content distribution and enhance India’s cultural footprint on the global stage.
Prasar Bharati has invited feedback from the public and industry stakeholders, signalling a shift towards a more commercially sustainable yet culturally driven public broadcasting model in the evolving media landscape.
