Newz Desk, 15th August Durgapur: Gourbazar, August 15, 2026: IQ City’s Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC) at Baidyanathpur, near Gourbazar, organised a two-day Sit-and-Draw Competition as part of the celebrations marking India’s 80th Independence Day. The initiative brought together more than 500 school students from 14 schools in the surrounding region, providing them with a platform to showcase their creativity while developing a deeper sense of patriotism and community participation.
The competition was designed to encourage young minds to express their thoughts and feelings about the nation through art, while also creating awareness about the importance and significance of Independence Day. Participants were divided into three groups based on their age, allowing students from different age categories to take part in the event.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, with school heads, teachers and members of the local community extending their support to make the initiative a success. The vibrant participation reflected the strong connection between the participating schools and the surrounding community. Winners of the competition were presented with gift prizes, while certificates and colour kits were distributed to all participating students in recognition of their enthusiasm and creative efforts.
Speaking about the initiative, Ms Sudarshana Gangulee, Director, Mani Group, said, “Independence Day is a beautiful reminder of the freedom we cherish and the shared responsibility we carry towards building a brighter tomorrow. It is especially heartening to see young minds come together with such enthusiasm, imagination and pride, using their creativity to express what our nation means to them. Through initiatives like these, we hope to sow the seeds of compassion, confidence, responsibility and patriotism in the hearts of our children, while giving them the freedom to dream, create and express themselves.”
The two-day programme highlighted the importance of engaging children in meaningful community activities and using creative platforms to nurture values of patriotism, responsibility and social awareness. The enthusiastic participation of students from 14 schools added a strong community dimension to the Independence Day celebrations at IQ City RHTC.
