DPS Durgapur celebrates 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour

Newz Desk, Durgapur: August 15, 2026: Delhi Public School, Durgapur celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour and cultural enthusiasm. The celebrations began with the unfurling of the National Flag by Chief Guest Brigadier Rajesh Khanna of the Army Medical Corps, in the presence of Principal Shri Umesh Chand Jaiswal, followed by the National Anthem.

The programme featured patriotic choir and instrumental performances, along with gifts presented to children of ‘Ashar Alo’. A mime showcasing India’s achievements in 2025–26 highlighted the courage of the Indian Navy, advances in science and space technology, Para Archer Sheetal Devi’s accomplishments and India’s success in the Women’s Blind T20 Cricket World Cup.

The History Department also presented a skit on Padma Shri Yanung Jamoh Lego of Arunachal Pradesh, highlighting her efforts to preserve indigenous herbal knowledge.

Addressing the gathering, Brigadier Rajesh Khanna urged students to uphold discipline, courage, service and excellence. Drawing from his experience in operational areas including Siachen, Jammu & Kashmir and Assam, he encouraged the young generation to contribute responsibly to the nation’s progress.

Principal Shri Umesh Chand Jaiswal called upon students to embrace integrity, empathy, discipline and responsible citizenship. The celebration concluded with a Vote of Thanks, reaffirming the school’s commitment to nurturing compassionate, responsible and patriotic citizens.
