No more ‘Police’ or ‘Army’ stickers on private cars, says Bengal Traffic Police

Newz Desk, Durgapur: In a bid to curb the misuse of official insignia, the West Bengal Traffic Police has issued a statewide directive prohibiting the use of “Police“, “Army“, and similar official stickers on private vehicles. The advisory has been circulated to traffic authorities in Kolkata as well as all district police units.

According to official sources, the move comes after instances were reported where individuals allegedly used such stickers on their personal vehicles to gain undue advantage, avoid traffic checks, or seek preferential treatment on the roads.

The directive instructs enforcement agencies to initiate legal action against violators in accordance with the law. Officials believe the misuse of official stickers undermines law enforcement and creates confusion during routine traffic enforcement.

However, the advisory has sparked debate within sections of the police force. Some officers pointed out that the Calcutta High Court, while hearing a case around three years ago, had observed that a police officer displaying a police sticker on his or her personal vehicle was not illegal.
