Newz Desk, Durgapur: 25th September 26: After remaining closed for several years, the Mohan Kumar Mangalam (MKM) Park in Durgapur’s Steel Township was reopened to the public on Friday, bringing back one of the city’s old and popular recreational destinations.
The park was reopened under the aegis of the Ilambazar Educational and Welfare Foundation. The inauguration ceremony was attended by DCP’s Executive Director B.S. Popli, who formally inaugurated the park. General Manager Jayanta Biswas, CGM P.K. Sinha, the foundation’s secretary Geeta Nanda and several other dignitaries were also present.
MKM Park is among the older prominent parks in Durgapur and features a pond, fountains, a hilly landscape and extensive greenery. The revamped park will offer several recreational facilities, with boating, a laser light show and fountain attractions expected to be among its major highlights. Set amid greenery and a waterbody, the park is expected to provide residents with an opportunity to spend leisure time with their families in a natural setting. The park management has also announced special concessions for DSP personnel and morning walkers.
Geeta Nanda, associated with the management of the park, said the main objective behind reopening the facility after a prolonged closure was to provide better recreational opportunities for local residents and children. She also stressed the need for cooperation from residents to ensure the park is maintained and operated properly.
The reopening has generated enthusiasm among local residents. With its recreational facilities and natural surroundings, the MKM Park is expected to once again emerge as a popular destination for children, families and nature lovers in Durgapur.
