Newz Desk, Durgapur: 25th September 26: In view of the presence of a strategically important Indian Air Force (IAF) station at Panagarh, the Air Force on Thursday conducted a special awareness campaign in the area to promote aviation safety and prevent bird-hit incidents.
As part of the campaign, IAF officials visited Panagarh vegetable market, fish market and Indira Gandhi More, where they urged residents and traders not to dump garbage, meat waste or other food remains in open spaces. The officials also made people aware of Rule 91 of the Aircraft Rules, 1937, which deals with activities that may pose risks to aircraft operations. They explained that the improper disposal of meat and other waste in open areas attracts birds, increasing the possibility of bird strikes involving aircraft.
According to the Air Force, a bird strike can have serious consequences, including damage to or loss of aircraft and risks to the lives of pilots and people on the ground. The destruction of military aircraft could also result in substantial financial losses. The IAF therefore appealed to residents and shopkeepers to dispose of waste only in designated dustbins or hand it over to garbage collection vehicles operated by the panchayat.
BJP member of Kanksa Panchayat Pankaj Jaiswal was also present during the awareness programme along with the Air Force officials.
