Flight Chaos Hits Kolkata & Durgapur: Multiple Cancellations Leave Passengers Stranded

Newz Desk, Durgapur 4th December : Flight disruptions continue to trouble passengers across West Bengal as IndiGo cancels multiple flights for the third consecutive day. Along with Kolkata Airport, several flights from Durgapur’s Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport have also been cancelled, leading to growing frustration among travellers.

At Kolkata Airport, 11 flights scheduled between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Thursday were cancelled, while several others were delayed. For instance, IndiGo’s Delhi-bound flight 6E 2079, originally meant to depart on Wednesday, took off only on Thursday morning. Around 10 incoming and outgoing flights each experienced delays since early morning.

Durgapur Airport also saw disruptions, with Wednesday’s Mumbai flight and Thursday’s Chennai flight being cancelled. Airport authorities said services on other routes were operational but running behind schedule.

Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport handles flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar, Bagdogra, Guwahati and Varanasi — all operated by IndiGo. Several cancellations were reported over the past two days as well.

Airport Director Kailash Mondal confirmed the cancellations but attributed the disruptions to winter weather conditions, refraining from commenting directly on IndiGo’s operations.

Passengers, however, are growing increasingly anxious. Rajesh Chatterjee, a passenger scheduled to fly to Chennai for medical treatment, said he learned this morning that his flight had been cancelled. “I don’t know how I will travel now,” he said, expressing deep concern.

With the holiday season approaching, frequent delays and cancellations are adding to the woes of both leisure and business travellers.
