News Desk, Durgapur 4th November 25: In a dramatic escalation ahead of Mamata Banerjee’s Berhampore rally, the Trinamool Congress on Wednesday suspended Bharatpur MLA Humayun Kabir for announcing plans to build a replica of the Babri Masjid in Murshidabad. State Minister Firhad Hakim said the party had repeatedly warned Kabir against making such statements, especially with Assembly elections approaching.
Kabir, informed of the decision hours before Banerjee’s programme, said he would quit the TMC on Thursday and launch his own political party on December 22. He reiterated that he would go ahead with the stone-laying ceremony on December 6 — the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition.

The move has triggered concerns at the Raj Bhavan, with Governor C.V. Ananda Bose questioning why Kabir had not been arrested if his remarks posed a law-and-order threat. The administration remains on high alert in Murshidabad as Banerjee and senior officials conduct multiple review meetings. The TMC said Kabir was suspended after repeated warnings over his controversial public statements.
