Newz Desk, Durgapur : In a sweeping crackdown stretching from West Bengal to Jharkhand, the Enforcement Directorate has launched coordinated raids targeting the ‘big fish’ of the coal smuggling network. ED teams searched 24 locations in Bengal — including the Asansol–Durgapur industrial belt, Purulia, Howrah and Kolkata — and 18 locations across Jharkhand from Ranchi to Dhanbad.
The operation has yielded a major haul: bags and briefcases stuffed with ₹500 bundles and large quantities of gold jewellery, many of them stored in newly purchased bags still bearing price tags. All major recoveries so far have come from Bengal, officials said.
Over 100 ED officers are part of the day-long search, covering residential buildings, offices, coke plants and illegal toll-check posts. The case involves massive losses to the exchequer, estimated to run into thousands of crores. Cash counting is still under way, and officials expect the seizure figures to rise further.
