Newz Desk, Durgapur: X has introduced a new feature that displays where an account is based, along with its creation date and username history — a move aimed at improving authenticity on the platform. Announced by head of product Nikita Bier over the weekend, the “About this account” section now appears under the profile’s “Joined” tab.
Bier said the update is meant to strengthen platform integrity, adding that location data will refresh on a delayed, randomized schedule to protect user privacy. Users in countries with restricted speech can choose to show only their region.
Soon after launch, online analysts found that several prominent pro-Trump and MAGA-aligned accounts were operating from outside the U.S., including Eastern Europe, Thailand, Nigeria and Bangladesh. One major account, “MAGA NATION,” with nearly 400,000 followers, was among those identified.
The feature also prompted a clarification from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which stated its official X account has always been run from within the United States.
