Residents allege emergency calls to Galsi Electric Substation go unanswered

Newz Desk, Bardhaman : Residents of Khana Junction, Kishorkona, Samra, Hitta and several surrounding villages have expressed serious concerns over the alleged lack of response from the Galsi Electric Substation during electrical emergencies, claiming that repeated calls to the department often go unanswered.

According to local residents, incidents involving snapped power lines, transformer faults, short circuits and storm-related damage are not uncommon in the area, particularly during the monsoon season. In such situations, timely communication with the electricity department is essential to prevent accidents and restore normalcy. However, many residents allege that despite multiple attempts to contact the substation, calls are frequently not answered.

A Call for Help, But No Answer: Residents Demand Accountability from Power Officials

The issue has sparked anxiety among villagers, who fear that delayed responses could lead to serious accidents. Residents point out that exposed high-voltage wires, damaged electrical poles and transformer malfunctions pose immediate threats to public safety and require urgent attention from electricity department officials.

Several residents claim that during recent power-related incidents, they repeatedly dialed the emergency contact numbers provided by the department but received no response. Some reported that the phones continued to ring without being answered, while others encountered busy lines for extended periods.

“The biggest concern is public safety,” said a local resident. “If a live wire falls on a road late at night or a transformer catches fire, there must be a reliable way to immediately alert the authorities. Every minute matters in such situations.”

The alleged lack of responsiveness has prompted calls for improved emergency management systems. Residents have demanded that the electricity department ensure round-the-clock staffing at all helpline numbers and establish a dedicated call centre capable of handling emergency complaints promptly.
