Newz Desk, Durgapur: State-owned Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL) is set to transform LPG distribution by introducing a 10-minute cylinder delivery service, beginning with Bengaluru, in partnership with a leading quick commerce platform.
Under the new initiative, customers will be able to receive 5-kg and 10-kg LPG cylinders within 10 minutes of placing an order. The service is expected to be expanded to other cities across the country in a phased manner after its initial rollout.
HPCL clarified that customers do not need to be HP Gas subscribers to avail themselves of the service. Consumers using LPG connections from any oil marketing company will be able to order the cylinders through the quick commerce platform, making the service accessible to a wider customer base.
While the companies have not yet disclosed the pricing of the rapid delivery service, industry observers believe the initiative could redefine last-mile LPG distribution. They also expect other public sector oil marketing companies to introduce similar services if the pilot proves successful. The development has generated interest in major metropolitan cities, including Kolkata, where consumers are awaiting details on when the service will be introduced.
10-kg LPG Connections Also on the Way
In another significant development, oil marketing companies are preparing to launch 10-kg composite fibre LPG cylinder connections in Kolkata and other metro cities. The move comes at a time when the Petroleum Ministry continues to restrict the issuance of new 14.2-kg domestic LPG connections, a measure introduced amid concerns over supply disruptions during the recent geopolitical tensions. The restriction on new regular domestic connections remains in force.
Customers, however, will soon have the option to obtain a 10-kg composite cylinder connection, joining the already available 2-kg and 5-kg LPG cylinders. The lightweight fibre cylinders are expected to offer greater convenience and portability. According to sources, obtaining a new 10-kg cylinder connection may cost around ₹1,600, though oil companies are yet to announce the final pricing and the procedure for obtaining the connection.
Detailed operational guidelines are expected to be issued shortly as the companies prepare for the rollout of the new service and cylinder category.
