A Bath Like Laundry? Japan Makes It Real

Newz Desk, Durgapur: In a blend of robotics, wellness engineering and retro Japanese innovation, tech company Science has announced the commercial launch of a “human washing machine,” a fully automated cleansing pod that debuted as a prototype at the recent Osaka World Expo.

The device resembles a high-tech capsule that cleans the user through a sequence of water jets, microbubble washes and sensory relaxation tools. Featuring biometric monitoring, the machine records heart rate and other vitals to customise the experience.

The technology is an evolution of a concept showcased at the 1970 Osaka Expo, which inspired the company’s current president as a child. “This machine is designed to rejuvenate both body and mind,” explained spokesperson Sachiko Maekura.

Following inquiries from a US hospitality chain, the company chose to move forward with commercial production. An Osaka hotel has purchased the first unit, with installation underway.

Industry sources say the machine is expected to retail for approximately 60 million yen (USD 385,000), positioning it as a niche luxury wellness technology for high-end hotels and resorts. AFP
