Newz Desk, Durgapur/Andal: Panic has gripped Dandadihi village in Andal after land subsidence on ECL property was followed by fire and smoke emerging from the ground. According to local residents, flames and smoke have been coming out of the soil in a part of the village for the past three days, with the situation reportedly worsening with each passing day.
Residents have expressed concern over the growing intensity of the smoke and flames. They alleged that despite three days having passed since the incident was first noticed, no ECL official has so far visited the site to assess the situation. According to villagers, the combination of land subsidence, smoke and fire has raised serious concerns about the safety of people living in the area. They fear that if immediate preventive measures are not taken, the situation could potentially lead to a major accident.
Residents claimed that the amount of smoke and fire emerging from the ground has been increasing gradually. With homes and families located nearby, many villagers are now worried about the possibility of the subsidence spreading or the underground fire intensifying.
The villagers have demanded that ECL authorities immediately visit the affected area and conduct a detailed inspection. They have also called for the actual cause of the subsidence and fire to be investigated with the help of technical experts and for adequate safety measures to be put in place around the vulnerable zone. The incident has once again raised concerns over the risks associated with subsidence and underground fires in coal-mining areas. Residents are demanding urgent intervention from both ECL and the local administration before the situation turns into a larger disaster.
