Newz Desk, Durgapur/Ukhra: A 35-year-old daily wage labourer, who had been missing for the past three days, was found dead inside a well located in front of his house in Khadpara area of Ukhra under Andal police station in West Burdwan district. The incident came to light on Sunday morning, triggering panic in the locality. The deceased has been identified as Shasthi Bauri (35), a resident of Khadpara. He worked as a daily wage labourer and frequently travelled outside the area for work.

According to family members, Shasthi had left home a few days ago. As he often went out for work, his family initially did not suspect anything unusual. However, when he failed to return even after a considerable amount of time, his family members began searching for him. Relatives, friends and acquaintances were also contacted in an effort to trace him. The search took a tragic turn on Sunday morning when local residents noticed a body floating in a well situated in front of Shasthi’s house while attempting to draw water. The news quickly spread across the area, following which the Ukhra police outpost was informed. Police personnel reached the spot and recovered the body from the well. It was subsequently sent to the district hospital for post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, questions remain over how Shasthi ended up inside the well. Police are investigating whether he accidentally fell into the well or whether there was another reason behind his death.
The Ukhra police outpost has initiated an investigation, and officials are waiting for the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of death.
