Newz Desk, Durgapur: To ensure round-the-clock availability of food and beverages, Eastern Railway has installed modern automatic vending machines at on the right side at the entrance of Platform No. 1 of Durgapur station. Passengers can now purchase packaged snacks and drinks at any time using UPI, ensuring a quick and hassle-free experience.
According to Asansol Division officials, the initiative aims to enhance passenger convenience through user-friendly technology. With most passengers now preferring digital payments, the cashless system allows buyers to complete purchases swiftly, without queues or interaction with shopkeepers.
Three vending machines have been planned for the station, of which two have already been installed. Items such as jhalmuri, bhujia, chips, cakes, biscuits, and cold drinks are available.
Passengers are responding positively to the service, though some expressed concerns about online payments being deducted when an item is out of stock. Railway officials clarified that in such cases, the machine’s screen will notify the buyer, and the refunded amount should reach the customer’s account within 10–15 minutes. A helpline number will also be displayed for assistance.
The vending machines are expected to save time during rush hours and allow passengers to buy essentials even late at night.
