Newz Desk, Durgapur: The final match of the 54th Sahid Saranan Mukherjee and Sahid Sunil Acharja Smriti Football Tournament 2026 was held today at the Milanchakra Club Ground in B-Zone, Durgapur, on Sunday, drawing hundreds of enthusiastic football fans.
The tournament, which began on 23 August 2026, saw participation from eight teams from Durgapur. After a series of competitive matches, Durgapur Hero’s Club emerged victorious in the final, defeating Tansen Athletic Club, Durgapur, by a margin of two goals.
The final match was attended by several distinguished personalities. Former East Bengal and Mohun Bagan footballer Tarun Dey was present as the Chief Guest. Former MLA Santosh Deb Roy, former Durgapur Municipal Corporation Mayor Rathin Roy, and CGM, Town Services, DSP, Promod Sinha were also present at the occasion.
The match witnessed an enthusiastic response from the local football-loving community, with hundreds of spectators gathering at the Milanchakra Club Ground to cheer for the two finalists.
IQ City Medical College and Hospital extended its support to the tournament by providing an ambulance and logistical assistance, helping ensure medical preparedness and the smooth conduct of the final match and closing ceremony.
The tournament once again highlighted Durgapur’s enduring passion for football and provided a platform for local clubs and players to showcase their sporting talent.
