Newz Desk, Durgapur: In an effort to strengthen public awareness on emerging social and cyber-related crimes, Bidhannagar Outpost lead by IC Soumen Kundu of Durgapur Police Commissionerate organised an awareness seminar at Srijani Guest House in Kaliganj, Arrah, on Monday.
The programme focused on a range of critical issues, including cyber fraud, child and women’s safety, child labour, and child trafficking. Police officials interacted with local residents, students, community representatives and members of various organisations, highlighting the need for greater vigilance and community participation in preventing crime.
During the seminar, officials explained the common methods used by cyber criminals to target unsuspecting victims through fraudulent phone calls, fake investment schemes, phishing links and social media scams. Participants were advised not to share confidential banking information, OTPs or passwords with anyone and were encouraged to report suspicious activities immediately to the police or the national cybercrime helpline.
IC Soumen Kundu of Bidhannagar Outpost emphasised the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of women and children. He also discussed preventive measures against child abuse, trafficking and exploitation, while urging parents, teachers and community members to remain alert to signs of child labour and trafficking. They stressed that timely reporting of suspicious incidents can help save lives and bring offenders to justice.
Officials also informed attendees about the legal provisions relating to child labour and human trafficking, as well as the support mechanisms available for victims. The interactive session allowed participants to raise concerns and seek guidance on various safety-related issues.
The seminar concluded with an appeal to the public to work closely with the police in creating a safer society through awareness, responsible digital behaviour and prompt reporting of crimes.
