Newz Desk, Asansol: The 7th edition of the India Power Karigari Mela, organised by India Power Corporation Limited, concluded successfully at the open ground opposite Sentrum Mall, Shristinagar, Asansol, leaving behind a strong impact in promoting Bengal’s rich craft heritage and empowering local artisans. The four-day CSR-driven fair was held from January 23 to 26, 2026, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from artisans, visitors, and cultural enthusiasts.
The mela was inaugurated by Shri Moloy Ghatak, Minister-In-Charge, Department of Labour & E.S.I (MB) Scheme and Departments of Law & Judicial, along with Swami Somatmananda Maharaj of Ramakrishna Mission, Asansol, Swami Tyagabhayananda Maharaj of Ramakrishna Mission, Delhi, AMC councillors Shraboni Mondal and Anirban Das, and other dignitaries.

This year’s edition marked a significant milestone as the initiative, expanded across West Bengal in 2025 and rebranded as India Power Karigari Mela, brought together artisans from across the state. Visitors explored a wide range of traditional crafts including Dokra, Patachitra, Terracotta, Kantha, Madur, Jamdani, jute and cane products, leather goods, spices, jewellery, and handloom garments such as Muslin, Chikankari, Ajrakh, and Batik. A total of 46 stalls were set up in collaboration with Bengal Shristi, Halo Heritage, SHGs, and various West Bengal government departments.
The mela also featured vibrant cultural programmes each evening, including Baul and Polli Geeti performances, along with drawing competitions, adding to the festive spirit of the event.
Mr. Somesh Dasgupta, Whole-time Director of India Power Corporation Limited, said the Karigari Mela has grown beyond a CSR initiative to become a platform dedicated to the cause of “Save Our Art; Save Our Artisans.” He expressed gratitude to artisans and partner organisations for their continued trust and support.
With strong footfall, cultural engagement, and positive response from both artisans and visitors, the India Power Karigari Mela 2026 concluded on a high note, reaffirming its role in preserving and promoting the traditional art and craftsmanship of Bengal.
