Newz Desk, Durgapur: A pin-drop silence filled the packed 1,500-seater auditorium of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Durgapur as Brigadier Subir Sondhi recounted the tense hours leading up to ‘Operation Sindoor’— India’s decisive cross-border strike against terrorist hideouts earlier this year. For the students attending their induction programme, it was a live motivational talk that gave them a glimpse into the grit, strategy, and sacrifice of the Indian Army.
The talk, organised on August 28 as part of the four-day Students’ Induction Programme, saw Brigadier Subir Sondhi, invited from the Panagarh Army Base. Brigadier Sondhi took the audience through the background, meticulous planning, and execution of the May 7-8, 2025, operation. He explained how the Indian Army, in coordination with the Air Force, demolished terrorist dens across the border, neutralising operational bases of groups allegedly supported by a neighbouring nation.
As he concluded, the Brigadier was greeted with a standing ovation from faculty members, scholars, and students of NIT Durgapur, his words leaving an unmistakable mark on young minds at the institute.
The day’s proceedings also featured a talk on entrepreneurship by Sunil Kumar, a former Class-I telecom services officer turned entrepreneur. Drawing from his own experience, Kumar spoke about innovation, resilience, and leadership as cornerstones of success. His session resonated with many in the audience who saw parallels between battlefield courage and entrepreneurial spirit.
Prof Arvind Choubey, director of NIT Durgapur, welcomed and felicitated both speakers, noting how their insights would inspire students to pursue excellence in diverse walks of life.
