Newz Desk, Durgapur: Newton Young Corner won the top honour, the ‘Best of the Best’ title, at the Durgapur Press Club’s Shyama Samman 2025, announced Wednesday evening.
Like the previous two years, the Shyama Samman competition was organised with great enthusiasm by the Durgapur Press Club on Tuesday evening. The event celebrated the city’s various Kali Puja committees by recognising excellence in four categories — Best Pandal (mandap), Best Idol (pratima), Best Lighting Decoration, and the Best of the Best category.
Members of the Durgapur Press Club, along with jury members, visited and evaluated 11 Puja pandals across the city. The panel of judges included Tarun Bhattacharya, Principal of MAMC Modern High School, and educationist Sukanya Banerjee. Based on their assessment, the results were announced on Wednesday evening.
In the Best Pandal category, the award went to Dishari Sangha, located at Benachity Panch Matha More. The award for Best Idol was bagged by Durgapur Steel Park Sanhati Sangha, while Sagarbhanga Club Ambition received the Best Lighting Decoration award. The most prestigious title, Best of the Best, was awarded to Newton Young Corner.
On Wednesday evening, the winning puja committees were felicitated with mementos at their respective pandals. Guru Teg Bahadur Public School, Durgapur, played a key role in in organising the Shyama Samman event which continues to inspire spirited participation and friendly competition among the city’s puja organisers.
