LPG Relief: DAC now sent to booking device, ending delivery chaos

Newz Desk, Durgapur: After weeks of complaints over failed LPG deliveries, oil marketing companies (OMCs) have rolled out a key fix in the Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) system, making it more aligned with how consumers actually book cylinders today.

Under the revised system, the one-time DAC will now be sent to the same device or platform used for booking the refill—via WhatsApp or email—instead of being restricted to the registered mobile number. The move is expected to significantly cut down on delivery failures that had become common in recent weeks.

The DAC mechanism, introduced as a safety layer to ensure cylinders reach the right customer, requires users to share a code with the delivery agent at the time of handover. However, the earlier setup often created confusion. Even if a booking was made through an app on a different phone, the code was sent only to the registered number, which in many cases was inactive, unrecharged, or simply not accessible.

Dealers say this mismatch led to a spike in failed deliveries. “Delivery personnel had no option but to return with full cylinders when customers couldn’t provide the code,” said a distributor, adding that it increased both delays and operational costs.

Consumers, especially those using multiple devices or updated contact numbers, were among the worst affected. Many reported making successful bookings and payments but being unable to receive cylinders due to missing DACs.

With the update, OMCs aim to make the system more practical and user-friendly without compromising on security. The DAC will still remain mandatory at the time of delivery, ensuring that cylinders are handed over only after proper verification.

Industry insiders believe the change will not only reduce last-mile disputes but also improve overall delivery efficiency. For consumers, it means fewer missed deliveries and a smoother refill experience going forward.
