“Job or Death”: Deceased DPL worker’s family on indefinite hunger strike

Newz Desk, Durgapur : The family members of a deceased worker of Durgapur Projects Limited (DPL) began an indefinite hunger strike after failing to secure employment despite repeated assurances over the last thirteen years.

The protesters alleged that although they were promised compassionate appointments following the worker’s death, no concrete steps have been taken so far. According to them, they have submitted multiple applications and made several representations to the authorities, but all efforts have yielded only verbal assurances.

We have been waiting for thirteen years. We received nothing except promises,” said one of the protesters. “In today’s situation of rising prices, it has become impossible for us to survive without a stable source of income.”

The family members warned that they would not withdraw their agitation unless they receive appointment letters. “We will not leave the protest site without either a job or our death,” they said, expressing deep frustration and desperation.

The protesters further stated that the decision to sit on an indefinite hunger strike was taken as a last resort, as all other avenues for redress had been exhausted.

So far, no official response from the DPL authorities has been reported.
